The HSBC Platinum Credit Card has been available in India for a long time and is one of the country’s classic lifetime-free cards. It serves as an entry-level card from HSBC Bank with a low reward rate. However, the card shines through its periodic instant discount offers on popular platforms like Amazon, EasyDiner, BookMyShow, BigBasket, and MakeMyTrip. On top of it, recently, HSBC introduced its own travel portal wherein you can use Platinum Credit Card and earn higher reward points. These reward points can be transferred to around 15 airmiles and hotels program including Accord Hotel’s ALL program. This further multiply value of your reward points. So, if you are looking for an airmile based credit card without paying any fee, HSBC Platinum Credit Card is for you. Or if your main credit card comes from a different bank, the HSBC Platinum card can be a handy backup. You can use it when there are discount offers exclusive to HSBC, and since it’s a lifetime-free card, there are no annual fees or spending thresholds to worry about. Simply keep it for those moments when you can benefit from discounts, with no concerns about maintaining regular usage.

Cashback and Rewards

  • Base Reward Rate: 2 Reward points for every Rs.150 you spend across the categories (= 0.66% to 1.33% valueback)
  • Accelerated Reward Rate:
    • Hotel Booking: 6x Reward Points (=12 Points per Rs.150 Spend = 4% to 8% Valueback)
    • Flight Booking: 4x Reward Points (=8 Points per Rs.150 Spend = 2.66% to 5.33% Valueback)
    • Car Rental: 2x Reward Points (=4 Points per Rs.150 Spend = 1.33% to 2.67% Valueback)
    • Accelerated Points Limits: Accelerated Reward Points on HSBC Travel Portal are limited to 18,000 bonus points per calendar month. No limit on Base Reward Points
  • Cashback on Fuel: Rs.250 Cashback on fuel on spending Rs.10,000 or more in a calendar quarter. Offer only applicable till 31st December 2025. A single fuel contactless transaction must have a Minimum transaction value of Rs.1,000; and is limited to a Maximum transaction value of Rs.5,000.

Lifestyle Benefits

  • Domestic Seat Offer: Receive a fee reduction for booking a seat on Domestic Flights booking on MakeMyTrip. This reduction is a discount up to Rs. 350 per booking. The offer will be capped to 2 free seats per card per year (1st April 2025 – 31st March 2026)
  • 15% Back on Hotel Booking through MakeMyTrip: Get cashback in MakeMyTrip wallet (MyCash) equivalent to 15% of the booking value when booking selected Domestic hotel using coupon code ‘VISASIGNATURE’ . This MyCash (1 MyCash = ₹1) can be redeemed against future bookings.

  • Airmiles or Hotel Points: This is the best option to redeem reward points of HSBC Platinum Credit Card. You can instantly convert Reward points to Airmiles (or hotel points) wherein 2 reward points is equals to 1 Airmile or Hotel point for most of the programs. There are 15 airmiles and 5 hotels programs to transfer the reward points. Among this, the most rewarding program is Accor hotel’s ALL program wherein 1 Accor Point’s value is more than Rs.2.   • HSBC Travel Portal Bookings: Pay for flights booking, hotel booking or car rental at 1 Reward Point = Rs.0.30 on HSBC Travel Portal. You can make upto 100% of payments using reward points. The HSBC Travel portal offers best price guarantee and refund the price difference if you find any flight or hotels are lower price on any other source within 24% of booking. It offers, very low convenience fee, 100% refund on booking cancellation option, no foreign exchange fee etc. This increases the effective savings even more.
  • Giftcards and Products: Rewards points can be redeemed for vouchers across a variety of categories including jewellery, fashion accessories, apparel, home appliances, electronic equipment and cosmetics. It include Amazon Giftcards also. However. the conversion ratio if 5:1 i.e. for 4900 points, you get Rs.1000 Amazon Giftcard. Value of reward points: 1 Point = Rs.0.1

  • Relatively good customer care centre and service

Cons

The HSBC Platinum Credit Card is one of the oldest lifetime free credit card in India. After the launch of HSBC Travel Portal, this card has become better in terms of reward rates. On top of it, it makes its users eligible to use HSBC Travel Portal which claims to offer lowest price for flights and upto 100% refundable tickets option.

Further, this card can be taken for HSBC’s instant discount offers, which have become more frequent on popular e-commerce sites like Amazon, MakeMyTrip, BigBasket, EasyDiner, Swiggy, etc. You can also find these discounts at offline stores like Croma. Since the card is lifetime free, you can keep it specifically for such offers without worrying about fees.
